Collins Aerospace and Taqnia Space plans to expand Collins’ ACARS coverage on the Saudi Arabian Peninsula. Taqnia Space will oversee ground station deployment at suitable locations across Saudi Arabia to close the current geographical gap in coverage.
This latest deployment increases the availability of the Collins air/ground VHF datalink network for aviation customers, improving point-to-point airborne connectivity and the delivery of timely information between pilots and ground operations.
“Collins Aerospace is actively expanding its ground station network to ensure ACARS coverage is available from multiple locations and covers the widest geographical area possible,” said Clotilde Enel-Rehel, general manager for Commercial Aviation & Network Services for Collins Aerospace. “Saudi Arabia is a key area for this expansion as we execute our goal to ensure pilots can always communicate with someone on the ground.”
Mr. Abdulrahman Al Khathlan, Taqnia Space Acting CEO adds, “This cooperation with Collins Aerospace will continue to streamline communications over the Kingdom for local and global airlines. In addition, it will strengthen our position as a provider of connectivity services for the airline sector and serves as a contribution to the kingdom’s “Vision 2030” program, promoting local business development initiatives.”
Deployment of new ground stations is expected to start before 2022 and be completed within the next year.
