Free Online Course on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) – ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is inviting the applications for the Online Course on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). It is a free 12-day (19 September – 30 September 2022) Online Course conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) and will give the interested participants an introduction to GPS and GNSS technologies, GNSS receivers, processing methods and much more.

The course is being offered as an outreach program by a centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation with the aim to assist the urgent demand for trained manpower in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Geographical Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing and associated geospatial technologies.

ISRO Free Online Course on GNSS will cover:

  • Introduction to GPS and GNSS Technology
  • Advance Global Navigation Satellite System processing
  • Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) or NAVIC
  • DGPS (Differential GPS) demonstration
  • GPS aided and GEO Augmented Navigation (GAGAN)
  • GPS receivers and processing methods
  • Satellites based Augmentation Systems
  • Satellite navigation
  • GPS errors and accuracy
  • Development of satellite navigation technology, TRANSIT, TSKLON, GNSS: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou
  • GNSS applications
  • Principle of positioning system

Who can participate within the ISRO Online Course?

The Online Course on GNSS is open for:

  • Students both Postgraduate and Undergraduate
  • Faculty or researchers of various universities and institutions
  • Technical and Scientific staff of central or state government

The study materials of the course like video of recorded lectures, pdf, open source software and handouts of demonstrations among other material are going to be made available to the participants through e-class. The video lectures will be available through the IIRS Learning management system (E-CLASS). 

How to Apply for ISRO Free Online Course on GNSS?

The application process is easy. To register for the course, the interested participants can visit the official website of Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS).

  • In order to participate in the IIRS Outreach program the interested universities, institutes, departments or organizations need to first identify a coordinator at their end. After this process, the respective coordinator will register their Institute online as the nodal center on the website of IIRS. The coordinator will have to approve participants for the course.
