GPS Caucus to celebrate two-year anniversary, continuing to promote the benefits of GPS technology
Representative Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) joins Representative Don Bacon (R-NE) as a co-chair of the bipartisan, House Global Positioning System (GPS) Caucus.
“GPS technology plays an integral part in nearly every aspect of modern society but is also an essential tool for our country’s national security,” said Sherrill. “As a former helicopter pilot for the U.S. Navy, I know first-hand the importance of accurate, reliable, and resilient GPS technology, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to support this critical technology.”
“Since co-founding the GPS Caucus two years ago, we have held numerous briefings and other events to educate Members and their staff on how the GPS industry is fueling innovation, economic growth, and job creation,” said Rep. Bacon. “This is a critical time in the history of the GPS program, as modernization of the constellation and ground control continues, ultimately bringing greater robustness and higher accuracy for all GPS users. I look forward to partnering with Congresswoman Sherrill on efforts to expand, protect, and promote the use of this technology.”
The Caucus endeavors to educate Members of Congress and their staff on the societal benefits of GPS technology including support of economic growth, national security, and modernized infrastructure while advocating for the continuous availability, accuracy, reliability, and resiliency of the GPS constellation. Many issues of importance to the GPS community and everyday GPS users fall under the jurisdiction of several committees Rep. Sherrill proudly serves on, including the House Armed Services Committee and Science, Space, and Technology Committee.
The Senate GPS Caucus is co-chaired by Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Joni Ernst (R-IA).
