UAV Navigation Autopilots now Compatible with Ainstein US-D1 Radar Altimeter

The radar altimeter from the American manufacturer is now plug&play with the Spanish autopilots

Altimeters are a key part of the last phases of the flight profile. These devices are designed to calculate the height of an aircraft above the surface directly below it.

By using radar altimeter, it creates accuracy and provides robustness that other laser altimeters do not have. For that reason, the altimeters are devices that are routinely integrated for UAS manufacturers with UAV Navigation’s GNC solutions.

Unlike other flight control systems, UAV Navigation’s autopilots can execute precise and standard landing on runways and that is because of the advanced logic that incorporates. This means that landings can be achieved without using vulnerable and expensive DGPS/RTK systems.

Ainstein is an experienced radar altimeter manufacturer with a range of products geared towards unmanned aircraft. The US-D1 is a compact and robust design that enables their use in demanding environments, enabling drones to operate in every condition and location.

The Ainstein system offers a combination of compacted enclosure and a considerably light range that allows installation in a wide number of platforms.

The communication between the autopilot and the device is conducted via CAN port so a specific driver within the flight control computer software was implemented. This was solved because of the extended experience that UAV Navigation has in the integration of similar subsystems and peripherals.

UAV Navigation is always seeking to widen the family of peripherals to make them compatible with our flight control solutions. The integration of the subsystems makes the integration of all the components faster because of its plug&play capability and it also helps the customers in the selection of the different peripherals in their platforms.
